Caroline Stephens Obituary

Carrie L. Stephens, 52, died suddenly at home on Thursday afternoon August 1st, 2019. Carrie was born August 12th, 1966 in Bowling Green Ohio. She grew up in Egg Harbor, New Jersey then went to Dennison University in Ohio and got a bachelor’s degree in Economics with a minor in French. She then went to Delaware and got a nursing degree in 1997. She moved to Chandler, Arizona that summer and a year later married Bill Stephens and he still can’t believe he was so lucky. She became a Registered Nurse that year and worked at Phoenix Regional and then Chandler Regional Hospital. She returned to New Jersey in 2005 to take care of her cancer-stricken mother, Beverly, until she passed. Shortly thereafter she went to Ohio to take care of her mother’s mother, June, until her death. She returned to Arizona in 2006 and became a School Nurse at Sirrine & Roosevelt Elementary schools where she worked until 2018. She then worked as a home health Nurse for various patients until her death. She is survived by her husband, Bill Stephens, her father Dan Thoren, her brothers Matt & Chris, her nieces June, Hattie, Isabella, and Cora and her nephew Davis. She worked compassionately as a nurse and made life-long connections with many patients and students. She often came home with a funny story about what one of her students said or did that day. She really enjoyed taking care of the children. She had none of her own and taking care of her kids helped fulfill her maternal instincts. She was also a great lover of animals. Anytime anyone found a stray they would bring it to Carrie. She became a great detective of finding owners of lost pets. Whenever an owner could not be found, she would try to find it a home but usually ended up taking care of it herself. At the time of her death she had 5 dogs, Datne, Jibby, Sammy, Boo Boo, and Archie as well as two cats, Bobby and Kidiot. She loved them all and they know it. They are very confused and anxious right now. Her memorial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 10th at Falconer Funeral Home 251 West Juniper Ave. in Gilbert. After the ceremony friends & family are invited to join her husband at Joe’s Real BBQ, 301 N. Gilbert Rd. Carrie loved flowers (she will have many), but would probably prefer that you donate to her favorite charity, the American Cancer Society.
