Robert M. Ramirez Nogales, Arizona Obituary

Robert M. Ramirez

Robert M. Ramirez, our mentor, coach, best friend and dad, passed on to a better place, born in Douglas, AZ, on July 4, 1924, and moved to Nogales at the age of four. He was a man of many talents; he was passionate about his work, his family and his friends. He served his community in many ways through his involvement with his beloved VFW Post 2066, where he was past commander; he had an exceptional gift and ability in communicating with large or small groups of people. He served his country during WWII, flying with the army air corp of the ninth Air Force Division, flying seven combat missions in a B-17 bomber and nineteen in a B-24 bomber. Upon returning from the war, he was reunited with his childhood girlfriend Leonor Cortinas, who later became his lifelong partner; they were married for 45 years before her passing in 1995. Together they had four children: Sandra Vista, Robert D. Ramirez (Katharine), Jaime C. Ramirez (Lisa), and Sergio C. Ramirez (Angelica). There are six grandchildren: Gabriella K. Ramirez, Naomi Ramirez, Isaac Ramirez, Sophia Ramirez, Diego Ramirez (deceased), and Cynthia Ramirez. He is also survived by his two beloved sisters, Carmen Duarte and Mary Bernal, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, Manuel Ramirez. He worked for Capin Mercantile Corporation for over 48 years before retiring as a senior corporate buyer in 1995. He was a very elegant man, always impeccably dressed, known to his friends as "The Fab". He loved to play pool and was known to always have his own cue stick available for a quick game with his fellow VFW buddies. We want to pay a special thank you to the caretakers at Hospice Family Care in Tucson, AZ, and also to Denise, his caretaker at Dependable Care in Nogales, AZ. Memorial Services are to be held at San Felipe De Jesus Parish, 1901 N. Jose Gallegos Dr., Nogales, AZ 85621, starting at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2013. Family requests donations to the Steele Memorial Children's Research Center at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, Department of Pediatrics, P.O. Box 245073, Tucson, AZ 85724-5073. Funeral arrangements by ADAIR'S CARROON MORTUARY, Nogales, AZ.
