Paul Williamson Obituary

WILLIAMSON, Paul Loving father and husband, Paul Williamson, 90, of Oro Valley, Arizona, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. Paul was born in Superior, Wisconsin on April 22, 1927. He and his family relocated to Arizona when Paul was a boy. Paul graduated from Tucson High School in May of 1935. Following High School, and after a few other short adventures, Paul went to work at American Airlines as a ticket agent where he worked for 37 years. Paul married Patricia Linehan in 1954, that marriage producing three children, Paul Jr. (September 6, 1955), Karen (October 29, 1956), and Ted (February, 1958). Several years after the dissolution of his first marriage, Paul met Marcella through their work at American. They married on September 7, 1963. Paul legally adopted Marcella's daughter, Shelley (November 29, 1954). On August 8, 1964 their marriage produced a daughter, Helen. Paul was a man with the heart of a servant. He was humble and hardworking, silly and soft spoken, friendly and faithful. He rarely had an unkind word to say about anyone and would (literally) give a stranger the shirt off of his back. There was no work that he was too good to do and no person who was too low for him to help. Paul's life was simple, straightforward and honest. Amongst his most prized possessions is a very large photo/scrap book that was presented to him upon his retirement from American. Inside are more than 200 letters and notes of commendation that were written about him during his 37 year tenure with the company. Because drawing that kind of attention to himself was very uncomfortable, few people have had the privilege of seeing those letters. Paul had an unshakeable faith in God and a strong relationship with Jesus and was very active in the life of the Church. He occupied many servant roles in various congregations over the years and loved to attend social events and studies as well. One of his greatest joys was participating in the Music Ministry until, at age 87, his declining health made it impossible for him to participate any longer. He continued to fold bulletins on Friday mornings, the last time in March of this year, shortly before he turned 90. Paul was a good, beer drinking Lutheran, loved hard physical labor, enjoyed reading and crosswords, listened to and made music from a very young age, was an avid gardner and project do-er. But perhaps his crowning achievement was the way he selflessly cared for his wife, Marcella, for many years, until her passing in January of 2013. The last two years of Paul's life were difficult ones as he fought against the ravages of Alzheimer's disease. Even in the darkest and most confusing of times, his love for his family was at the front of all he knew. Paul is survived by daughters, Shelley Liggitt, Karen Tracy, Helen (Steve) Thoenes, and Patricia Dee, sons, Paul (Cathee) and Ted Williamson; grandchildren, Chad (Lindsay) and Kyle (Kat) Liggett, Autumn (Pam Liberty) Van den Berg, Misty Boling, Joshua and Jacob Tracy, Taylor, Paul and Christian Thoenes, and Molly Dee, great-grandchildren, Adalynn Liggitt, Ethan and Lief Van den Berg, and Avery, Riley and Rowan Boling; sister-in-law, Donna Leavesley, and countless nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Paul is preceded in death by his wife, Marcella and numerous family members and friends. Paul's family would like to thank Casa de la Luz for their in home care of him as well as Lisa Ryles, Miriam, Linda Olson and all of those who provided kind and gentle care, and the spiritual family of Resurrection Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Resurrection Lutheran Church Building Fund or Casa de la Luz Hospice. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
