Wanda Ford

Wanda Potts (Newburn) Ford, age 93, passed away at home on December 17, 2017. The end of her life was marked by great contentment and a fearless anticipation of meeting Jesus. She was born on June 28, 1924, in Wingo, Kentucky, to Reverend and Mrs. W. B. Potts. She had one brother, Clovis B. Potts. She had two long marriages, first to Colonel Walter E. Newburn, United States Army Chaplain's Corp, and second to Maurice Maxwell "Max" Ford, United States Air Force, Retired, who was her faithful partner in service at Oro Valley Church of the Nazarene. Besides her parents, brother, and husbands, Wanda was predeceased by her sister-in-law Carolyn Millsap Potts, her nephew Jesse Potts, and her son, retired City of Tucson fire chief Daniel E. Newburn. She is survived by her daughters Sandra J. Maxedon and Dorothy G. Weber, friend Jane Murphy, daughter-in-law Katie Craig Newburn, and beloved granddaughters Megan E. Baker (Tommy) and Molly A. Booker (Brian). She is also survived by four great-grandchildren whom she was thrilled to get to know and two nieces Linda Potts Erath (Ed), Jennifer Potts Storts and greatnephew Shawn Storts. Wanda had many friends at OVCN over the years, and she was blessed by the telephone calls with her peers, by the visiting prayer partners, and by the unique and caring notes and cards sent to her by ladies of the church. Her daughters are grateful to Harmony Hospice for accompanying the three of us on her journey, and Sandra is especially grateful to Dot and Jane for the care that Dot was able to give Mom, not only as a devoted daughter but also as a skilled, live-in caregiver. Services were at OVCN on January 2, 2018.
