Charles George

Charles (Charlie) Edward George, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, July 6, 2020. His wife Gloria and sister, Barbara, were with him. Charlie was born December 6, 1928 in Amory, MS. to Francis and Christine George. He grew up in Memphis, TN. becoming a star football player at Treadwell High School. He very proudly served in the United States Marine Corp between WWII and Korean wars. On April 4,1952 Charlie married Jean Whitehead. She passed away August 4,1986. Charlie, Jean, Chuck and Brad moved to Phoenix, AZ in January,1957. Where Charlie opened Arizona Ornamental Iron Works eventually becoming George’s Steel Products. He was highly respected throughout the steel fabricating and construction industry. On May 24, 1960 Charlie and Jean welcomed Randall (Randy) George to the family. Charlie was an avid golfer. He won the Arizona Country Club golf Tournament in 1976. The tournament was held during a celebration of “Americas Bi-Centennial.” He was a Multi Engine Instrument Rated pilot who loved flying his family and friends to various places. He embraced his role of Patriarch of his family at an early age. He supplied his siblings, sons and many others with jobs, training or whatever was needed to aid in their own lives’ success. Charlie embraced a lifestyle of joyful giving to numerous organizations from holding Christmas parties (with everyone receiving a gift) to those in need. He has always loved his Church and Church family. On November 27, 1987 Charlie and Gloria Zolinski were united in marriage. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jean, their sons Chuck and Brad plus his brother Walter. He is survived by his wife Gloria, son Randy, brother Robert, sisters Bonnie (Bob) Hunter, Millie Haggard, Barbara Harris, daughter-in-law Beth George, sisters-in-laws JoAn Whitaker, Beverly (Don) Schuch, Marian Nash, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends. Plus, his dog, Sonny Boy. A special “Thank you” to his caregiver, Donna and Hospice of the Valley Nurse, Jessica. A Memorial service in Charlie’s honor will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 10AM. First Baptist Church Sun City, 11019 W Peoria Avenue, Sun City, AZ 85351.
