Harold Dorwin Bates Obituary

Harold (Hank) Dorwin Bates was born on March 19th, 1950 in Carrollton, Missouri to Joseph Benjamin (Benny) Bates and Esther Pauline Weigent Bates.

He attended Carrollton schools and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1968. While serving he was in the Vietnam War. After being wounded twice, he was honored with 2 Purple Hearts. He was also awarded a Vietnam Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Combat Action Ribbon, and a Rifle Expert Badge.

He was a truck driver for several years and was a general contractor, where he enjoyed remodeling and various other construction. He loved spending time with family and friends.

On December 27, 1983, he married the love of his life Carole, who survives the home. He is also survived by his 3 children; his oldest son, Wesley Bates and wife Melody of Carrollton, Missouri; his daughter Laura Miller and husband Duane of Ottawa, Kansas; and his youngest, Thomas and Amber Bates of Osawatomie, Kansas; 3 grandchildren, Joshua Bates of Carrollton, Missouri, and Sean and Haley Miller of Ottawa, Kansas: 3 brothers, Donald (Sonny) Bates of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Joseph (Joe) Bates of Carrollton, Missouri, and David Bates of Herrington, Kansas; and 2 sisters, Patricia (Patty) Groce and Benny Bea Blum of Prairie Grove, Arkansas. He also had several nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, 2 sisters; Charlotte Roach and Avonea “Bonnie” Ford; 2 nephews Robert “Bobby” Roach and Joey Bates; and a niece Amy Henderson.

Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association and/or the Peoria/Sun City Seventh Day Adventist Church.
