Katherine Craine

Mrs. Katherine Craine, who actively served St. Christopher’s Church for many years passed away on August 23, 2019. A celebration of Katherine's life will take place October 12, 2019 at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Sun City at 2:00pm. Katherine was born to Louis Wheeler Hicks and Mary Bell Hicks on Nov 22, 1926 in Keyser, WV and grew up in Westernport, MD. She enjoyed a happy childhood, growing up near the Potomac River with a culture of independence; she appreciated that everyone knew one another. She graduated from Bruce High School and Potomac State College. Katherine has always been an Episcopalian and enjoyed singing in the choir as a teenager. Her major church affiliations have been with St. James in Westernport, MD., St Luke’s in Oak Park, Michigan, and St. Christopher’s in Sun City; she served on the vestries of all three churches. Katherine met her first husband in high school, and after college they married and moved to Oak Park, MI. While in the Detroit area she became a credit manager in the cashier’s office of Dayton-Hudson department store. Her husband was a salesman, whom she lost after 33 years of marriage. Katherine retired in 1988 and moved back to Maryland to care for her mother. She also served on the town council and volunteered at a nursing home gift shop. After her mother passed away, she married Harley Rowbotham; they lived in Sun City for six months of the year and Westernport, MD for the other six months. Several years after Harley passed away Katherine met William Craine at Sun City’s pool; they married and had many good years together. Katherine was a dignified yet humble lady; many were blessed by her life during her 92 years. She is survived by a niece Nancy D. Herritage (Jim) of Lexington, SC. Great nephews: Colonel Allen D. Herritage, USAF (Kristin) of Langley AFB, VA and Benjamin D. Herritage (Cassie) of Lexington, SC and a Great niece Laura Katherine Herritage (Michael K. Robinson) of San Jose, CA.
