LAMAN POPE

Laman Pope of Surprise, AZ passed away Nov. 7th, 2015 at the age of 86, surrounded by his family.<br><br>Laman was born Feb. 27th 1929 in McAlester, OK to Elsie & Laman Pope. Laman had 4 siblings, Raymond, Gilbert, Marie, & Chester. Upon his mother’s death, Laman & his siblings were sent to The Sequoyah Orphan Training School in Tahlequah, OK. After 10 years at Sequoyah, Laman joined the US Navy.<br><br>In 1952 Laman married Donna Mae Dishno, in Hartford, WI. They had 3 children, Mary, Jeff, & Rhonda. They celebrated 63 years together.<br><br>Laman held various jobs; oil field worker, ambulance driver, mortuary clerk, canning factory, Midas muffler, until finally finding his calling in the aerospace industry working for Garrett AiResearch/Allied Signal for 21 years.<br><br>After retiring, Laman enjoyed traveling, bowling, watching sports, gardening, & spending time with his family.<br><br>We will never know another man like Laman. We were blessed for 86 years.<br><br>Preceded in death by his sister Marie Scharpf, and brothers, Gilbert, Chester, and Raymond Pope.<br><br>Survivors: Wife; Donna Pope of the home. Children: Mary Lynn Weynand (Mike) of Neosho, WI, Laman Jeffery Pope III (Linda) of Prescott Valley, AZ & Rhonda Kim Kleinsteiber (Bill) of Surprise, AZ. Grandchildren: Angela, Michelle, Michael, Jelynn, Serena, Alyx-Marie, & Koaly. Great-grandchildren: Jacqueline, Kimberly, Emma, Johnny, Austin, Tanner & Ava. His cherished cousin”Dutch” & all of his nieces & nephews that meant so much to him!<br><br>A Celebration of his life will be held Friday, November 13, 2015 at Regency Mortuary at 2 pm. <br><br>Lunch following at 17634 W. Spur Dr., Surprise, AZ 85387.<br><br> *There will be a service in McAlester, OK at a later date.*
