Roger Harold Pell

<p>Roger Harold Pell, 83, died Sunday, January 3, 2016 at the Woodmark Memory Care Center, Sun City, AZ following a long, oscillating struggle with Lewy Body Dementia. </p><p><br></p><p>Roger was born and raised in Glenville, MN. He was the son of I.G. and Grace Pell; he was a lifelong resident of Minnesota. Roger attended District #116 Hayward-Glenville Schools, grades 1-7. In 1946 the family moved to Petersburg Township where he attended grade 8 at the Petersburg School, and graduated from Jackson High School in 1950. </p><p><br></p><p>Roger served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War in 1952-1956. Airman First Class Roger H. Pell had the opportunity to serve as Crew Chief, working on the B-36, known as the Magnesium Monster, the world’s largest airplane at the time.He took great pride in the years he spent working with aircraft in the Air Force.After serving with the military, he joined his family in the farming business. </p><p><br></p><p>Roger was united in marriage to Wilma Boothe Johnson at the Union State Line Church on his parent’s 35th wedding anniversary, October 18, 1963. He and Wilma enjoyed raising three children on a farm near Petersburg, MN. He took great pride in the farming operation, but his biggest pride in life was his family. He frequently said, “there is not enough time in the world to be angry.” He was a generous, loving father and husband. He loved recreating with his family and friends on snowmobiles, boats, a pool, vacations and going out to eat. He lived by the motto that, “you can’t take it with you,” and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was an authentic, down-to-earth person who didn’t put on airs for anyone and spoke his truth through clever quips, which will be remembered, and missed. </p><p><br></p><p>Roger and Wilma moved off the farm and into the town of Jackson, MN in 1992. While living in town, he enjoyed morning coffee rounds with Claire at Vets Oil, Frank and Therese at Jackson Crop Services, Ann and others at the Farmer’s Coop Association. He retired from active farming at 79 years old, when his nephew, Ken Pell assumed the Pell family farm business in Jackson County, as his son, Nathan Johnson, had previously acquired a farm in Lowry, MN.</p><p><br></p><p>He and Wilma enjoyed the sun, friends and family visits in the retirement community of Sun City, AZ. His last two years were spent at the Woodmark Memory Care Center SPA where his bright eyes, big smile and clever quips lit up the room as his struggle with Lewy Body Dementia waxed and waned. He said having people care for personal needs was a great challenge and he handled it with deep gratitude. He died peacefully with family present. A celebration-of-life memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 2pm at the Woodmark SPA. A funeral service will be held at the Union State Line Church in Petersburg, MN at a later date.</p><p><br></p><p>Roger is survived by his wife of 52 years, Wilma, his son, Nathan (Karla) Johnson and his two daughters, Rachel (John) Muir and Mary Pell; two grandsons, Zachary (Rebekah) Johnson, Mitchell Johnson; three great grandchildren, several nephews and a niece, and many friends.
