Ronald Szakolzay

Ronald Ernest Szakolzay, 71, of Peoria, Arizona, died peacefully at Thunderbird Palliative Care Unit, Hospice of the Valley on Sunday, March 12, 2017 in the presence of his loving family. Born in Bridgeport, CT, on April 25, 1945 to Julius and Ana (Szabo) Szakolzay, he was raised in Fairfield , CT. Ron was a Connecticut resident until 1995 when he moved to Glendale, Arizona. Ron graduated from Lakeland College in Wisconsin then enrolled in the Air Force in 1966. Ron served in Germany and was stationed in Dover, Delaware. He worked for Lindquist in Bridgeport, CT, as Estimator and Salesman. He then opened his own business, Lake Architectural Hardware in Shelton, CT. He then moved to Arizona in 1995 to start work with Meyer and Lindhall in Phoenix, Arizona as Estimator. He then worked for Walters and Wolf in 2005 where he retired in 2012. Ron served his community through Jaycees in Connecticut and earned many honors in the hardware community. He shared his love of music as one of the DJs for the Decade Dance Machine. He will be remembered for his hospitality and humor at his many parties and get togethers and through his many loves including family, friends, photography, and fishing. He leaves his wife, Laura, whom he married April 12, 1969; his daughter Carrie Polk and her husband Andy as well as his grandson, Ryan Polk of Chesapeake Beach MD; his daughter Tracy Perry and her husband John of Mesa, AZ; his son Brian Szakolzay of Peoria, AZ. Ron also leaves his sister Anna Kovacs of Peoria, AZ, his brother Julius Szakolczay of Southbury CT, Kathy and Richard Lang, sister and brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, March 22nd at 11:00 am with a Celebration of Life immediately following at Elizabeth Seton Church 9728 West Palmeras Drive, Sun City AZ. A private burial will be held for family at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona on Thursday, March 23rd.
