After a long and courageous battle with kidney cancer, Sylvia LaDora (Cook) Hansen, age 88, died peacefully on July 30, 2016, surrounded by her family and is now rejoicing in Heaven with her Lord and Savior. She was born in Valley City, North Dakota to William Herman Cook and Edith Mae (Dier) Cook on August 25, 1927. Sylvia was the 6th of 8 brothers and sisters (Richard, Mary, William, Edith, Archie, Judy, and Herman) and is survived by her sister, Edith. As a young woman, her family moved to Tacoma, Washington, where she met and married her adoring husband after he completed his service in the Navy during WWII. They shared 70 blessed years together. Sylvia is survived by her husband, Carner N. Hansen, and three of their four children: Debra Birt and her husband, Michael; Evonne Whitmore and her husband, Stuart; and Aimee Steffen and her husband, Christopher; as well as eight grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son, Gerald S. Hansen, who died while serving in Vietnam on April 9, 1968. Sylvia was a devoted mother and wife who served the Lord, leading her family by example and turning to the Lord for comfort and guidance. She was a member of the Bellevue Heights Church while living in Peoria, Arizona. She rejoiced in her husband, children and grandchildren, happily telling others of their accomplishments. She had a great sense of humor and will be remembered for her sweet smile and happy laugh. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 A.M. on Thursday, August 11th, at Bellevue Heights Church located at 9440 West Hutton Drive, Sun City, AZ 85351.
