VIRGINIA ZIMMERMAN Obituary

Virginia (Ginger) Heller Zimmerman November 4, 1944 - September 23, 2012 Sun City, Arizona Ginger was born November 4, 1944 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Theodore and Virginia Heller. A member of a military family, Ginger had the privilege of living in Europe and graduating from Frankfurt American High School in 1962. After Military retirement, the Heller family finally settled in Minneapolis, Minnesota where Ginger married Neil Zimmerman. Ginger and Neil had two daughters, Kirsten and Heidi, who they raised in Minnesota and then California, after answering the siren call of Silicon Valley in 1976. Ginger established herself as a leader in the Silicon Valley mortgage industry for over 30 years, forging many close friendships along the way. After retiring to Sun City, Arizona in 2010, Ginger continued to make and maintain many special friendships, travel and enjoy life. Through a lifetime of volunteer work, Ginger also generously contributed her time and compassion to help others. Ginger is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kirsten and Mark Fordyce, and their children, Ginger’s beloved grand boys, Joe and Nick; daughter and boyfriend, Heidi Cooper and Jerry Lockner; brother Jim Heller; very special niece and nephew, Marie Claire Heller and Jesse Heller; and an extended network of cousins. Ginger is also survived by numerous close friends with whom she delighted in traveling, lunching, and giggling through life’s events, big and small. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ted. Ginger passed on September 23rd, the first day of fall, after a brief and unexpected illness throughout which she was surrounded and comforted by her family and close friends. Ginger’s daughters extend special thank-you’s to those who reached out to our mother and us during this most difficult time. Of special note, we express heartfelt gratitude to the ladies of the Sun City Purple Pride chapter of the Red Hat Society; to neighbor, wonderful friend and caretaker Lorraine Arend; and to the extended Fordyce Family for their continued support. Cousin Diana Bundy and friend Bonnie Parker provided great solace and companionship in Ginger’s last days, and we appreciate them traveling to be by her side. The gifts of kindness, compassion and dignity the staff of Hospice of the Valley North Sun City PCU shared with Ginger and our family and friends at the end of her journey brought all of us more comfort than we can express. A celebration of Ginger’s life will be held at a later time. As Ginger was a generous supporter of animal welfare in both life and death; should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in Ginger’s name to a favorite animal advocacy program. Her Journey: Don’t think of her as gone away, her journey’s just begun. Life holds so many facets, this earth is only one. Just think of her as resting from the sorrow and the tears, in a place of warmth and comfort, where there are no days and years. Think how she must be wishing that we could know today, how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched, for nothing loved is ever lost, and she was loved so much.
