Allan Matthias Obituary

MATTHIAS, Allan, died at home surrounded by his family in Tucson, Arizona on January 14, 2013. He was born April 22, 1948 in Waterloo, Iowa and was raised on his family's farm near Denver, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Dora Matthias and by his beloved first wife of 28 years, Sharon, who died in 2001. He leaves behind his loving daughters, Kathryn and Anne of Tucson. He is survived by his loving second wife of three years, Angie; her son, Rene and wife, Marlene and her daughter, Veronica and husband, Ernesto and two children, Elijah and Jayden of Tucson. He leaves behind his brother, Martin and wife, Sandy of Readlyn, Iowa; their daughter, Kim and husband, Noel and their children, their son, Jeff and wife, Veronica and their children and their daughter, Candi. He also leaves behind his brother, Bill and wife, Barbara of Denver, Iowa; their son, Kyle and wife, Holly and their children and their son, Neil and wife, Kelsie and their children. He was blessed with a large extended family of uncles, aunts, and cousins including his cousin, Victor and wife, Eula of St. Charles, Missouri and his cousin, Warren and wife, Elaine of Tucson; their son, Bryan and wife, Beth and their child and their daughter, Angie and husband, Scott and their children. He was employed as a faculty member at the Department of Soil, Water and Environmental Science at the University of Arizona for 31 years. There he had many wonderful colleagues and friends. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Tucson where he enjoyed the fellowship of the church. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at the University of Arizona Medical Center and the Arizona Cancer Center. Allan's immediate family also express thanks to Angie's and Sharon's extended families for their love and support. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life is scheduled for Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church, 3925 E. Fifth Street, Tucson, AZ 85711. In lieu of flowers, the family asks, if you wish, to please make a donation to the Arizona Cancer Center or other organization of your choice. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
