A.V. Johnson

A.V. Johnson, Jr. 81, passed away on October 2, 2012. He was born in Lockhart, Texas, to Willie Mae and A.V. Johnson, Sr. on February 6, 1931. After graduating from Carver High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force because he wanted to travel and see the world. A.V. served in the U.S.A.F. and the U.S. Army, was stationed throughout the United States and overseas, and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He earned the Purple Heart Medal, and was honored with commendations before retiring from the military in 1971. He worked for the City of Tucson as an A/C-heating technician from 1971 until his retirement in 1983, earned an Associates Degree in secondary education from Pima Community College, and had his own A/C-heating business. A.V. enjoyed cooking, collecting photos and watches, spending time with his dogs, and listening to music. He is survived by his children, Patricia, Michael, Carol, and Kenya; his granddaughters, Chandler and Zoë; his sister, Mildred; his brother, Ernest; many relatives and friends and his dog, Henry. A Memorial Service in A.V.'s honor will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., at the V.F.W. Post #4903, 1150 N. Beverly Ave. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
