Barbara Ann Silverburg Born in Spruce Pine, NC on January 17, 1933, died Thursday, January 5, 2012 in Tucson, AZ. Beloved wife, mother and friend, she was preceded in death by her mother and father, Fred and Rose Buckels, and her brother, Fred Buckels Jr. She leaves her husband of over 56 years, Ash; daughter Ashley Ann Silverburg; and son-in-law Ted Bunn. She graduated from New Castle High School in New Castle, IN. Her baccalaureate degree was earned at Ball State Teachers College, Muncie, IN, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Her masters degrees were awarded at the University of Arizona. Barbara was a speech and hearing therapist in Monroe, Michigan schools for two years before moving to Tucson in 1958. Here she was a teacher of English at Mansfield Jr. High School and an English teacher and reading specialist at Rincon High School until her retirement in 1989. In retirement she volunteered at her church and also worked in the cause of literacy. She thoroughly enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout North America, Europe and Africa, particularly relishing the cruises they took. A Memorial Service will be held at Catalina United Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway, on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to remember her by gifts either to the Community Food Bank, Tucson Metropolitan Ministries, or their favorite charities.
