Charlotte Rigg Obituary

Charlotte Rigg 1920 - 2012 On the family farm along the banks of the Ohio River in America, Illinois, Charlotte Eileen Burgess Rigg was born on July 28, 1920, and joined her beloved husband, Ted on December 21st, the same day that he died 28 years earlier. The second of four daughters born to Samuel and Josephine Burgess, Charlotte was a "PK," a "preacher's kid." Much of her childhood was spent in Carbondale, IL, before attending Eureka College, where she would meet her future husband, Ted Rigg. Charlotte graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in education and received her Master's from the University of Arizona. She taught school for several years before trading it for the glamour and excitement of seeing the world as an American Airlines stewardess in the 1940's. Ted and Charlotte were married shortly after Ted returned from WWII. They moved to Tucson and had four children. After they were grown, Charlotte again taught school for nearly ten years and was a doting grandmother to Steve Jr., David, Jonathan, Kelly, Stephanie, Erin and Megan. Charlotte will always be remembered for her exceptional musical talent. She loved the organ and piano and could play any song by ear. She also loved any kind of dancing. Charlotte's generous heart and kind spirit will be greatly missed. Charlotte is survived by her children, Michael Rigg (Kim), Susan Wasley (Greg) and Anne Carlson (Tom); 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, sister, Barbara Hage; many nieces and nephews and little dog Annie, her faithful companion. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ted; son, Steve; parents, Samuel Joel and Josephine and two of her sisters, Betty Jo Meyers and Harriette Treadwell. A Celebration of Charlotte's life will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church, 6565 E. Broadway Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Marshall Home for Men, 3314 S. 16th Ave., Tucson, AZ, or the American Heart Association. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
