Claire Phillips

Claire Adams Phillips passed peacefully to eternal life on March 28, 2013. Born in Detroit, MI, on November 3, 1928, to William and Elizabeth Adams. She graduated from Albion College with majors in both Mathematics and Chemistry and a minor in English. In 1952 Claire married Robert K. Phillips. They resolved to move southwest. Running out of money, they settled in Tucson in 1953. Claire was an accomplished seamstress, sewing everything from household upholstery to beautiful wedding dresses. She was an active volunteer for the GOP: a precinct captain, Pres. of Pantano Republican Women, member on the Pima County Central Committee, AZ state party secretary, manager of several campaigns and was a '72 presidential convention delegate. She earned a M.Ed. from UA in 1971 and taught at Santa Rita HS and Pima College until her retirement. Claire enjoyed her wine group and was a devoted 'Silver Sneaker' where she made many fond friendships. Claire was a source of knowledge in many areas; and her clear thinking, proactive planning and quick grasp of complex matters was a blessing to her family, friends and community. Survived by: husband, Bob; sister, "Tic" Adams of Greensboro, GA; children, Beth Phillips of Irvine, CA, Clark (Teresa) Phillips of Tucson, Leigh Ann Hill (Terry) of Las Vegas, NV; nine grandchildren, ten great- grandchildren. A private family memorial was held; remembrance gifts may be made to Easter Seals' RIS3 (3510 Grant Rd., 85716) or the Salvation Army. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
