Coral Horton Tucson, Arizona Obituary

Coral Horton

HORTON, Coral Collier passed away at age 100 after a brief illness. Coral was born in Estancia, New Mexico Territory in 1911 on her parents' homestead ranch. She was proud of her family history there, where her mother, Louise Menkemeyer, was a teacher in a one room school house and her father, John Collier, was a lawman among the ranches and railroads of the West. She acquired her life-long love of animals early in life on the ranch, and she believed the perfect companion always has four feet. Coral married Frank and went with him prospecting throughout the US and Mexico and eventually they settled in Tucson, where she lived for several decades. She bred dogs and volunteered with animal care groups, she dabbled in painting and participated in politics, and she lived for her friends and her pets. Coral lived in her own home until her death. In Coral's later years her constant companions and friends helped Coral live life on her own terms to the end. Her body grew frail, but never her mind or spirit. Coral is survived by her son, Allen Horton, Sr. (Janice); grandchildren, Karen Lee Reynoso, Peri Ann Simmons, Celeste Middleton, Christopher Robert Horton (Masumi); great- grandchildren, John Reynoso, Ana Reynoso, Bianca Horton, Amanda Horton, Skylor Kaito Horton, Jennifer Aiko Horton. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Horton and grandchild, Allen Horton, II. Special thanks to the help from Pima Health System and for the fine care from UMC Diamond 3 West. The Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2011 10:00 a.m., at St. Cyril's Catholic Church (Pima/Swan). In lieu of flowers, donations to Spay & Neuter Solutions, Inc., P. O. Box 762, Cortaro, AZ 85652, or to a charity of your choice are requested. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
