Doris Mitchell Obituary

Doris Jean Gordon was born on March 25, 1931, to Robert Henry Gordon and Laura Claypool in Belsano, PA. In the first decade of her life, she experienced the great depression. Although cash poor, her family was very resourceful. Her father worked hard in the coal mines and maintained a large garden; her mother canned the fruits and vegetables, and made their bread and butter. Through it all, they were generous and shared with others. In 1949, Doris graduated from high school and went on to complete nurses training at Indiana Hospital in Indiana, PA in 1952. She met Fred Mitchell and fell in love. They were married on August 9, 1952 and shared 66 years together. The first 19 years she was a military wife and had to manage alone for two and half of those years when Fred was deployed to Korea and Thailand. Doris was able to contribute to the family income working as a Registered Nurse throughout the years. For relaxation, she and Fred would often get out into the mountains and woods and enjoy walking and watching wildlife. She loved to see new places and was able to visit all 50 states, lived in Germany for two years and did zip lining in Costa Rica at age 73. She has a deep appreciation for what God has created! She accepted Christ as her savior at age five and her faith in Him is the foundation of her identity. She is the loving mother of three children, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren with an eleventh on the way. A memorial service will be held at New Life Wesleyan Church on November 16, 2019 at 11:00 AM. All are welcome. The address of New Life is 8900 E. Golf Links Road, Tucson, Arizona.
