FERNANDEZ, Frances, 85, died June 8, 2012 at her residence in Tucson, Arizona. She was born Frances Joy Balian on September 10, 1926 in the Bronx, New York to Haratoun (Harry) and Anoosh (Anna) Balian. Her father and mother both emigrated (separately) from Armenia in the 1920s and settled in New York. Frances graduated from Hunter College High School and Hunter College in New York. After graduating she moved with her sister, AnnaBelle to Washington, DC, where she worked as a department store buyer. Then, following a short career in theater in New York, Frances set off overseas, teaching grade school children of U.S. military personnel on military bases around the world. She lived and taught in Paris, London and Madrid, as well as Fulda, Germany and Okinawa, Japan. While in Madrid Spain she met Tony Fernandez, who was an executive with Sears Roebuck. They were married in 1971 at the Potomac United Methodist Church in Potomac, Maryland. After more than 25 years living abroad, Frances and Tony returned to the U.S. to settle in Tucson, Arizona, where she resided until her death. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Fernandez and her sister, AnnaBelle Kuldell of Potomac, MD. She is survived by her three nieces, Bettina Isaiah, Pamela Zambrotta and Suzanne McCutcheon and three nephews, Randall Kuldell, Scott Kuldell and Philip (Chipp) Kuldell. She also has 15 grandnieces and grandnephews. Frances was an avid gourmet and a connoisseur collector of fine art and beautiful things, many of which she acquired in her travels overseas. Memorial Service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday, June 22, 2012 at La Rosa at Santa Catalina Villas, 7500 N. Calle Sin Envidia, 2nd floor. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
