Frederick Shackelford Obituary

Frederick Winston Shackelford "Winn" passed away on August 24, 2011. Winn was born on April 14, 1917 in Pasadena, California. He joined the Air Force in 1942 and was a B24 Navigator during World War II. He met his wife of 65 years, Juanita "Nita" Esther Johnson on VJ Day in Kansas City, MO. He and Nita married in 1946 and moved to Tucson, Arizona. In Tucson, Winn began a 30 year career in the field of Finance and Banking. From 1959 to 1970 he was with the Bank of Tucson in various administrative positions which culminated into Senior Vice-President of the Bank. In 1970 he joined the Union Bank to become Senior Vice President/New Business Development. He was a Referee of the Pima County Juvenile Court, Chairman of Pima County Mental Health Fund Raising Drive; Account Executive for United Community Campaign; and an active member of the Chamber of Commerce. He rode with the Pima County Sheriff's Mounted Posse and the Los Charros del Desiertos. In 1975 he and Nita moved to Southern California, retiring in Solana Beach. They returned to Tucson in 2002 to be closer to their daughters and granddaughters. He is survived by his wife, Nita; daughters, Kathryn Kay McGarvin and Carol Lynn Craft; four granddaughters, Tracy (Charles) Micka, Carrie Schloss, Courtney (Joey) Ingegneri, Gabriela Craft and four great- granddaughters, Maddison and Riley Schloss, Merrina Micka and Gianna Craft and his beloved dog, Miss "Ally Oops." Winn's wonderful sense of humor, dedication to family and his spirit of looking at the funny side of life will be hugely missed.
