WHITLOCK, Genevieve V. age 97, passed away peacefully at Casa de la Luz Hospice, on Saturday morning, November 26, 2011. Born on a farm near Purcell, OK, on Valentine's Day, she lived through the great depression, the dust bowl, and World War II, moving to Tucson with her family in 1952 when we were a little town just starting to explode in growth. She was almost 50 years old when she took the civil service exam. For her, filling in circles for each answer was a strange new thing, and began working for the City of Tucson Right of Way and Improvements Department. She worked there for almost 20 years until she retired, one of the charter members of the CTRA, the City of Tucson Retirees Association. Widowed shortly after retirement, she survived her husband, Charles Albert Whitlock, by 30 years. She leaves behind her son, Richard Whitlock; daughter-in-law, Brigitte; daughter, Cathy Rowlette; grandsons, Nick and Piet Rowlette; and many beloved nieces and nephews, who will miss her greatly. Services will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Avalon Chapel, on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with burial to follow at East Lawn Cemetery.
