George Sites Obituary

George E. Sites 11/14/1920 - 7/26/2012 George was a devout Christian who loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and his loving, devoted wife, Ruth, very much. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Sites; a son, "Rocky" (Isabel) Sites and a daughter, Ivalynn Graser. Other survivors include Ruth's son, Don (Marilyn) Sinko; her two daughters, Sharon (Mitch) Majtyka and Linda Jordan and her grandson, Jim (Heather) Sinko. George was predeceased by his first wife, Lynn Hood Sites; after a marriage lasting more than fifty years. George has two granddaughters, Ajia Town and Marissa Sites; a great-grandchild, Zora; a sister, Rose Ann (Harry) Terstegge; plus many Hood relatives including honorary brother, Stan (Alvenia) Hood, a retired Major General and F-16 fighter pilot with the South Carolina Air National Guard and special nieces, Judy Renn and Elaine Evans. He is survived on Ruth's side of the family by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was known to them as "Papa George." George was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, and died at the age of 91. He had recently suffered a heart attack and stroke and died from complications suffered during the attempted recovery. George had worked as a farm hand before joining the United States Army. Assigned to the Field Artillery, he fought in the European conflict of World War II, was involved in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge, under General George Patton of the Third Army. He also fought in the Korean War. George worked his way up the enlisted ranks, became an NCO and was then offered a commission into the officer ranks. He traveled many places around the world as an Army officer and retired back in Tucson at the rank of Major, after a 22 year career. George then worked for a civil engineering firm, became a real estate salesman and was a volunteer ranch hand at the Lazy K Bar Guest Ranch. Experiencing the "cowboy way" on the ranch was perhaps the happiest time of his life, even though he was 80 years old. As husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, George was a spiritual, patriotic, kind, loving man who always wanted to help others and we will love and miss him always. A Memorial Service will be held at Mountain View Baptist Church, 3500 W. Overton Rd., Tucson, AZ 85742 on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. There will be no Graveside Services. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Caring Ministries, 820 W. Calle Sur, Tucson, AZ 85705, Mountain View Baptist Church, or to the charity of your choice in George's memory. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Avalon Chapel.
