Geraldine Solomon

A Celebration of life for Geraldine "Geri" Powdrill Solomon Geraldine Powdrill Solomon was born on October 11, 1924 on the Creek Indian Reservation in Oklahoma. She was one of two children born to Quincy D. Powdrill, Sr. and Mattie "Portia" Holt Powdrill. Geri, as she was affectionately called, was raised in Tucson, Arizona, where her family homesteaded after moving from Oklahoma. Geri attended Dunbar Junior High School and graduated from Tucson High School. She received a B.A. in Education from Arizona State University and a M.S. in Education from the University of Arizona. Geri married David M. Solomon, M.D. and moved to Phoenix, Arizona. Two sons were born from this union: David M. Solomon II, and Gerald "Jerry" P. Solomon. Geri benefited from many successful years in Phoenix before returning to her home in Tucson, where her mother and brother lived. She taught elementary school in the Tucson Unified School District until retirement. Having such an outgoing personality, Geri enjoyed many hobbies, including reading, traveling, and playing cards, especially Bridge. She was active in numerous civic and social organizations. Geri was past President of the AAUW, Casa Adobes Branch; Charter member of The Assistance League of Tucson; past President of AKA Sorority in Phoenix; past President of the Links, Inc., in Phoenix, and Member of Merilac in Tucson, among others. Geri passed from this life on Monday, February 21, 2011 at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her parents, Quincy D. Powdrill, Dr. and Mattie Holt Powdrill; her brother, Quincy D. Powdrill, Jr.; a son, David M. Solomon III and his father, David M. Solomon M.D. She is survived by her son, Gerald P. Solomon of Arlington, VA; a granddaughter, Shaina M. Solomon of Annapolis, MD. She leaves behind many family members and friends, including Carolyn Jones of Tucson. Any donations should be made to the Dunbar Coalition, Inc. P.O. Box 86132, Tucson, AZ 85754.
