Henry S. Rillos, Jr. 85, passed away peacefully February 1, 2011, with his son Henry at his side. A native Arizonan he was born June 11, 1925 in Ajo to Henry Sheridan Rillos and Carlotta Sanora Rillos. The eldest of five children they lived their early years in Ajo. Around 1940 the family moved to Tucson. He attended Wakefield Junior High and Tucson Senior High School but did not graduate till post WWII in 1948. In 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater until 1946 when he received an Honorable Discharge. Always proud of his military service he belonged to American Legion Post #36. During his active years, he was a member of the color guard traveling around the city and surrounding communities paying their respects to deceased service men and women. In 1950 he married Maria Teresa Smith of Tucson. He is survived by his four children, Patricia (John) Shepard of Scottsdale, Rosemarie (Carl) Cowan of Tucson, Henry S. (Kara) Rillos also of Tucson and Major-USMC Ruben S. (Autumn) Rillos Camp Pendleton, California and grandchildren, Jennifer Shepard of Phoenix, John (Sabrina) Shepard of Houston, Texas, Rebecca and Colleen Rillos of Tucson and Jacob-Joseph and Carmen Rillos of California; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace and Lucas Shepard of Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, February 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 215 S. Craycroft, Tucson, AZ 85711. Our family's heartfelt thanks to the staff of Rosa's Little House for the loving care they gave our father.
