Herbert "Herb" F. Somermeyer 84, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. Herb was born on November 27, 1928 in Balaton, MN to Augustus and Selma Somermeyer. While growing up, Herb helped his mother, Selma operate the Somermeyer Grocery Store along with his brother Alfred until Herb left for college 1946. Herb earned a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Iowa State University and the bachelor of law from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, MN. He served in the Army reserve in Germany in 1951 as a 2nd Lieutenant. Herb married Lois Marie Mitchell August 1, 1954. Following several years of being a private and corporate patent attorney, Herb joined IBM Boulder, CO in 1969. In 1978, Herb transferred to IBM Tucson AZ, where he was a senior patent attorney until he retired March 1987. Herb was an avid photographer and loved to travel visiting many places in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, throughout the US and Canada. Herb was known for loving his family, his humor, and intelligence. Herb is survived by his wife Lois residing in Tucson Arizona and their son, Randy, now living in Boulder, CO. along with his wife Mary and two grandchildren, Amy and Brent.
