Jeffrey Arnold Obituary

Jeffrey Lawton Arnold 35, passed peacefully from earth to heaven at home on May 9, 2012 surrounded by his mother, father and sister. He was born on August 31, 1976 in Tucson to Ruth (Becher) and Jim Arnold. He is survived by his parents and his sister, Kristin (Craig) Waide and four nephews, Holden, Noah, Joseph and Samuel, all of Roswell, New Mexico and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dorothy and Albert Becher of Tucson/Green Valley and Maxyne and Ward Arnold of Marion, Indiana. Jeff had a love for life and a positive outlook like none other. He truly lived life to the fullest and didn't let his circumstances of a nearly life-long brain tumor (since age two) and loss of vision define his life. Jeff graduated from high school and college in Madison, Wisconsin and worked during his college years as a country music disc jockey, following in his father "Sunny Jim" Arnold's footsteps. Jeff was in the Disney College Program and worked as an attractions host at Splash Mountain in Disney World. In 1998 he joined the inaugural crew of the new Disney Cruise Line as a programming counselor working with 9-12 year old passengers. During construction of the Disney Magic he spent four months in Venice, Italy and sailed nine days across the Atlantic to put the ship into service in Florida. In 1999 he joined the Texas Rangers Baseball Club working in group and season ticket sales. In 2005 he became a true Wildcat, working for the University of Arizona Athletics Department, leading group ticket sales. He excelled at every job he ever had. Jeff served as Board President of the Southern Arizona Association for the Visually Impaired (SAAVI) for the past three years. He was involved in Victory Worship Center and one of his favorite things was his weekly Fellowship of Christian Athletes Bible Study at McKale Center. There was no place Jeff went that he did not make a friend or touch a life. He had true compassion and genuinely loved people and loved life. His smile was genuine, bright and contagious and his wit was quick. He was a true light and, even though he did not have his sight, Jeff had extraordinary vision. It may be said that Jeff lived the life he did not in spite of his tumor, but because of it – he had a strong drive and made opportunities for himself because he knew he could not count on tomorrow. That is a lesson we may all take from Jeff. Jeff will be missed every day, but we rejoice in the fact that he is with his Savior and is whole and healed and restored. We rest in the truth that he is in heaven and that we will see him again. A Service celebrating Jeff's life will be held Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ's Church in Roswell, New Mexico. Another Celebration of Jeff's life will be held on the University of Arizona campus at the McKale Center Hall of Champions on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Southern Arizona Association for the Visually Impaired at 3767 East Grant Road, Tucson, AZ 85716 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Jeff was a longtime Partner In Hope with St. Jude. The family expresses deep appreciation for the many caregivers who helped Jeff through the years including Dr. Michael Badruddoja and the staff at The Center for NeuroSciences, his chemo nurses at St. Mary's Hospital Nancy and Pat, and the staff at Odyssey Hospice, especially nurses Diane and Ruth. They all helped Jeff be the true miracle he was! Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
