John Leonard, Ph.D.

John Lander Leonard, Ph.D., 78, Senior Lecturer, Emeritus of the UofA Math Dept., passed away at home on March 24, 2014. He was born October 20, 1935, and grew up in Garden City, NY. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Cecilia; his daughter, Allegra; two grandsons, Colin Lander Briggs and Mattie Lander Leonard; also, his brother, Lewis B. Leonard; niece, Pamela (Lander) Gray Ahearn; brother-in-law, James A. Gray; and cousins, Patricia and Slade Lander. John was a loving husband, father, papa, brother, uncle and cousin, who will be remembered as an exceptionally kind man who loved unconditionally. He will be missed dearly. John enjoyed the arts, classical music, traveling, hiking, playing with his grandson, and the Arizona desert wildflowers. A Memorial Celebration of his life will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, April 12, 2014, at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge. In lieu of flowers, our family requests donations be made, in his name, in support of CODAC Serafina Women's Services or Tu Nidito grief support for children or an Animal Welfare Organization.
