John Wenaas Obituary

Dr. John E.J. Wenaas 11/14/1932 - 11/8/2011 Dr. John E. J. Wenaas passed away peacefully surrounded by family and close friends on November 8, 2011, after a short illness. The son of Dr. Elmer Justin and Augusta Wenaas, he grew up inYoungstown, Ohio where John attended Elementary School and Junior High School. He graduated high school from The Hill School in Pottstown, PA. He attended Saint Olaf College in Minnesota, the University of North Dakota and Youngstown University, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He received his DMD from Louisville Dental School. His residency in Oral Surgery was spent at Washington University and Barnes Hospital in St. Louis and Louisville General Hospital. He was a member of the International,Rocky Mountain and American Associations of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, The Arizona and American Dental Associations as well as the Southern Arizona Dental Society. John was a member of the Tucson Country Club, the M.O. Club as well as the Foothills Forum. He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Sally; his sons, Jeff (Anne) of Greeley, CO and Greg of Frankfurt, Germany; grandchildren, Ryan and Jaclyn; brother-in-law, Thomas Schafer (Anne) of Savannah, GA and their sons, Chad and Bret; his sister, Nancy Love (Jon) and four children of Madisonville, KY and countless friends who were honored to know him. John was preceded in death by his son, John Jr. His commitment to his patients, his love of fishing, hunting and traveling with family and friends were his trademark. He touched the lives of many people with his generosity, and sense of humor. Those who knew John seem to either have an exciting story or adventure to tell or a reflection of one of his many kindnesses. He had the ability to recognize those in need and the willingness to assist. He was a giant among men, a true man's man, yet inside the softness of a teddy bear. He possessed a quiet demeanor with a great inner strength, and was no stranger to good hard work. Friends are invited to join the family at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Tucson Country Club for a Service honoring John's life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gospel Rescue Mission, 318 W. 28th Street, Tucson, AZ, 85713. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
