Kenneth Gordon

Kenneth Alan Gordon Kenn was born April 26, 1940 and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He passed away December 30, 2010 due to complications from diabetes. Immediately after graduating from Stout State College Wisconsin in 1962, he was recruited by Fullerton Union High School District to teach at Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton. While at Sunny Hills, he served as president of the FSTO & California Teachers Association and was the founding Coach of Girls Varsity Soccer Program. He continued to coach even after retiring from his teaching assignments. He moved to Tucson, Arizona to help with his grandchildren. While here in Tucson, he began substitute teaching in the Amphi School District. He, also, received Top Volunteer Award from Copper Creek Elementary. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity Tucson, where he served as crew leader receiving top honors for Outstanding Leadership of Volunteers. He has been a lifelong Methodist starting out at St. James United Methodist in Detroit where he married Jane on June 16, 1962. They then joined Brea United Methodist Church, followed by Whittier First United Methodist Church and finally joining St. Mark's United Methodist Church upon settling in Oro Valley in 1993. He is survived by his wife, Jane; daughters, Patricia (Gordon) Jimenez, Donna (Gordon) Teixeira; son, Jeffrey Alan Gordon; granddaughters, Caitlin Jane Teixeira, Brianna Jane Jimenez, Sarah Noelle Jimenez, Adrienne Jane Gordon and grandson, Aaron Jeffrey Gordon; his brother-in-law Robert Shephard; nephew, RJ Shephard and aunts, Bette Poehler and Mary Gatton. Kenn is preceded in death by his father, Frank; mother, Billie; sister, Kathy. He was loved by all and he will be greatly missed. Memorial Services to be held at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 1431 West Magee Road, Tucson on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations to Casa de la Luz Hospice or Habitat for Humanity, Tucson. Arrangements entrusted to ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel (742-7901).
