Lavern Bernard Feld (aka Vern), 63, died May 05, 2014 at his home in Tucson, AZ. Born in Las Vegas, NM on June 10th, 1950 to Herman Lavern and Mary Grace Feld, in 1969, Vern graduated from Tucson's Catalina High School. Soon thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. His service was recognized with a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal and a Rifle Marksman Badge. In 1972, having received an honorable discharge, he transferred to the Marine Corps Reserve, and in 1977, earned an Associate of Applied Science in Mechanical Drafting from Pima Community College. Vern worked as a draftsman, and later, as a computer repairman. For several years, he cared for his aging parents and later, for his sister for nearly a decade. Vern was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church Choir. In addition to singing, he enjoyed playing the trumpet and the electric keyboard. Vern is survived by his sister, Phyllis M. Jacobi; several nieces and nephews, cousins, and his faithful cat, Scooter. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Sylvia C. Griffith, and brothers-in-law, Andrew C. Griffith and Frank D. Jacobi. Family, friends, and others whose lives Vern touched are invited to a memorial Mass at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 1946 E Lee St, Tucson, AZ 85719, on Thursday, August 7th at 10:00 am, and interment with Military Honors at the Southern Arizona Veterans' Cemetery, 1300 Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista on Friday, August 7th at 11:00 am. Memorial donations may be made to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
