Lawrence Bennett Obituary

Lt. Col. Lawrence A. Bennett Age 95, passed away at home on February 17, 2013. He was born October 14, 1917 in E. Liverpool, OH. After attending Kent State University he entered the Army January 1, 1942 and was commissioned at Williams Field. While stationed in England he flew a bombardier mission to Germany where he became a POW until WWII concluded 18 months later. On July 1, 1945 he married Army Lt. Margaret Jurek of Minneapolis, MN, they had one son, L.A. Bennett, Jr. He initiated the Vet. Admin. In Warren, OH and a regional in Syracuse, NY where he served as contact officer for many years. Following it, he was contact officer for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Montana and Colorado. He retired to Oregon in 1974 and settled in Tucson 1978. He volunteered with Senator Udall and Congressman Kolbe. He was also an active member of the AZ Wing Civil Air Patrol. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 1, 2013, at Tanque Verde Lutheran Church. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
