Lois Putzier-Wharton Obituary

Lois T. Putzier-Wharton 8/7/1931 – 2/5/2013 Lois Ann Turner was born in Alamosa, CO and grew up in Albuquerque, NM, graduating in 1949 from Albuquerque High. Lois came to Tucson in 1952. She worked many jobs, even as editor of the Hughes Aircraft in house Paper. She married Jim Putzier and kept the name, but not Jim. Sister Jean, deceased, had five children to whom Lois was a devoted aunt, friend, sister and companion: Cheryl Christy, Kelly Underhill, Tom, Denise (deceased) and Erin Hagan. Lois met and married her soul mate, Jerry Wharton. For 30 years, they were in love, politically active, travelling throughout Central and Latin America to work for peace and justice. From Jerry she leaves three children, Will, Jerry Ellen and Gavin; five grandchildren and two great- grandchildren whom she loved deeply. At age 70 she served six months in Federal Prison for protesting the School of the Americas at Fort Benning, Georgia. She became a Union Organizer with Communication Workers of America. She loved this work and political work for candidates such as Raul Grijalva. She leaves us with the words of Joe Hill: "Don't mourn, organize!" Memorial Service: Saturday, February 9, 2013, 4:00 p.m., UU Church of Tucson, 4831 E. 22nd, with a potluck following. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
