Louise Marie Cota-Schneider Obituary

Louise Marie (Roman) (DeVoy) Cota-Schneider age 93, of Tucson, AZ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Crossroads Adult Care Home, under the care of Casa de la Luz Hospice. She was born November 6, 1919, in Philadelphia, PA to Italian immigrant parents Umberto and Vittoria Roman. Louise outlived three husbands and was a compassionate caregiver to each one at the end of his life. She was married to Jean Paul DeVoy from 1944 - 1977; to Leon A. Cota 1979 - 1989; and to John W. Schneider 1994-May 2012. Louise was a woman of great faith in God who loved her extended family and cherished the many friends she made and kept throughout her life. She was generous almost to a fault, had a passionate personality and an independent streak. She was proud of her Italian heritage and her service as a Sergeant in the Women's Army Corps in WWII. After she and Jean met and married at Fort Benning, GA, they lived in his hometown of Brookfield, MO. They raised their children there from 1946 until they moved to Tucson in 1962, where she lived the rest of her life. Louise worked in ladies retail and held civil service positions at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in dining services and aircraft parts. Her kitchen was her favorite spot. Together with John, she traveled the world. Several times in her life she experienced severe health problems, but she always trusted that God still had plans for her on earth. Although Louise was a lifelong Catholic, she and John also attended Oro Valley Church of the Nazarene. Louise is survived by her four loving children: Ellen Burgess (Richard) of Tulsa, OK; Toni Becker-Heimann (Dale) of Phoenix, AZ; Kevin DeVoy (Brenda) of Brookfield, MO; and Terry DeVoy of Greenville, SC, and her devoted stepdaughters: Bette Tripp (Norman) and Penny Schneider of Tucson, AZ. Other survivors are her seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren plus John's five grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Julius Roman, and her sister Eleanor Roman Zimmerman. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 25, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. Joseph A. Lombardo, Pastor, in the Chapel at The Roman Catholic Church of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 8650 N. Shannon Rd., Tucson, AZ 85742. Family and friends are invited to gather before the Mass at 10:30 a.m. and for lunch following. Honoring her wishes, Louise's body was cremated and her remains will be interred in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Brookfield, MO at a later date. No flowers, please; in lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested in Louise's memory to Casa de la Luz Foundation, 7740 N. Oracle Rd., Tucson, AZ 85704, (520) 544-9890, or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME Dodge Chapel.
