Lu Hummon

Lu Meeke Hummon was born July 6, 1933 in Billings, Montana and passed away May 17, 2012 in Tucson, AZ. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Guy A. Hummon; two sons, Taylor John (Kristy) and Matthew Levi (Shelley) and three grandchildren, Ethan, Madeline, and Taylor Ann. She was preceded in death by her father, Samual Taylor Meeke; her mother, Marguerite Lucille (Holly) Meeke and a brother, Sam Meeke. She was a devoted mother and loving wife. She is a 1965 graduate of the Saint Joseph Mercy School of Nursing, Sioux City, Iowa. She worked as an operating room supervisor in Texas, California, Hawaii and Florida. She also served seven years in the Air Force as a flight nurse and operating room supervisor and was stationed in Turkey and South Carolina. After the family moved to Tucson in 1988, she became active in charity work at her church, St. Thomas the Apostle, where she was instrumental in establishing the monthly food drive in support of the Community Food Bank. She was also very active in supporting the monthly "lunch for the hungry meal preparation". A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, May, 21, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church Chapel, 5150 North Valley View Road, Tucson. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Casa Maria Soup Kitchen at 401 East 26th Street, Tucson, AZ 85713 (520) 624-0312. Arrangements entrusted to ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
