Maija E. Grasis Our beloved daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and best friend, Maija Elizabete Grasis, was born on a bright snowy day in Flagstaff on January 25, 1975. She passed away in the loving arms of her family on the coldest day in Tucson on February 3, 2011, from complications of an antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection. She leaves behind many who love her and felt her radiant warmth and love. She is survived by her parents, Andy and Pat Grasis; sister, Amanda (Grasis) Gutierrez; and brothers, Juris and Gonzo Grasis. A fourth generation Arizonan, she was the granddaughter of the late Janis and Elizabete Grasis of Yuma and of Timothy Joseph and Estermay Mahoney of Florence. Maija was our adventurous spirit. She loved wearing high heels and cruising in her convertible with the wind blowing through her long, blond hair. Always searching for new horizons, Maija lived in Tucson, Flagstaff, Austin, San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, and Vermont. A graduate of CDO and the UofA, Maija was a talented writer and advocate for women and children's rights. An accomplished community based mediator, she recently completed her master's degree in conflict resolution at the renowned School for International Training in Vermont. Her life will be celebrated always. A Memorial Service and remembrance will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the Wilson Room at Tohono Chul Park 7336 North Paseo del Norte, Tucson, AZ, 85704.
