Marion Bradley Tucson, Arizona Obituary

Marion Bradley

Marion Bebb Bradley Zelda Marion Bebb Bradley, known throughout her long life as Marion, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 10, 2012, at Santa Catalina Villas in north Tucson. She was preceded in death by her sister, Beryl Nordin; her brother, Thomas S. Bebb and her husband of 70 years, Gilbert Francis Bradley. She is survived by her sister, Karilynn Davis of Phoenix and three sons, Larry Paul Bradley, Richard Thomas Bradley, both of Tucson and Steven Ever Bradley of San Diego. She was born on September 14, 1921, in the Wilkes-Barre area of Pennsylvania, the eldest daughter of Thomas C. Bebb and Zelda Richards Bebb. When she was a teenager, her father moved the family to Arizona in search of work, which he immediately found. The Bebb family prospered in Arizona. Marion graduated from high school in Douglas, after which she worked as a secretary. While making deposits for her employer at the Valley National Bank, she met a young teller, Gilbert Bradley, called "Brad" by his friends. They were married in 1941, and very soon after that, Brad enlisted in what was then the Army Air Corps. After his basic training, he was sent across the country to various flight schools and officer training courses. And Marion followed right behind him, facing the difficulties of wartime transportation and finding lodging in small American towns. A favorite family story tells of the time she and some other young brides of servicemen decided to plant rubber trees for the war effort. They worked all day, and she recounted that she had never been so sore in her life. And the money they received hardly covered the cost of the boots and gloves they had to buy. This story reveals that Brad was not the only trooper in the family. Marion's long life was devoted to her husband and her family. Her children remember that there was always a warm welcome for their friends at the Bradley home and often an invitation to stay for dinner. Marion was active in many volunteer and service organizations, including PEO and the Tucson Medical Center Auxiliary, while raising three sons and maintaining close lifelong connection with extended family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2331 E. Adams Street in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception and light refreshment in the church hall. In remembrance, flowers may be sent to the church, or in lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
