Obituary
Mary Alice Carpenter O'Neil Passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, March 21, 2012. Born May 25, 1925 in Boise, Idaho, graduated from Boise High, 1943. Married March 25, 1946 after meeting her future husband, Daniel M. O'Neil of Chicago while working at the Gowen Field base library near Boise, during WW II. They shared a love of literature and enjoyed going 'plinking' in the sagebrush. Daniel O'Neil, Sr. died in 1994. Moved to Phoenix in 1953, raising four children, Daniel Martin, Alhambra, CA, David Joseph, Thomas Michael and Mary Ann O'Neil (Sam Behrend) all of Tucson. Survived by two grandchildren, Daniel and Georgia Behrend (Tucson) and many loving nieces and nephews. Mary Alice was an artist, voracious reader, animal lover and exceptional parent. Her interests were wide ranging and continually evolving, she maintained an interest in current events into the later years of her life. She volunteered for many years with Planned Parenthood, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Phoenix Public Library, Friends of the Phoenix Public Library and donated many gallons of blood to the Red Cross. We thank her roommate, Donna Kriensieck, for her companionship, flowers and cooking, which made Mary Alice's last year exceptionally pleasant. Thank you also to the staff of Diamond Three North of UMC, especially Cecelia and Jaime, for their skilled and compassionate care. No services are planned. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the literacy organization of your choice. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
