Mary Romer

ROMER, Mary Catherine Guiney, RD born on November 22, 1925 at the Stork's Nest Maternity Hospital, in Tucson, Arizona to Adeline Eliza Rothrock and Maurice Thomas Guiney, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017 at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ellis Roth Romer; her parents, Adeline and Maurice Guiney and her siblings, Thomas and Maurice Guiney and Adelyn Ivenz. She is survived by her children, Andrew E. Romer (Corissa), Eileen R. McGrath (Michael), Mary A. Romer and Jeannine L. Romer and by her 12 grandchildren, Katlin and Shea McGrath, Kevin and Alexandra Romer, Sarah and Rachel Cline, Adam, Meagen, Devon, Jacob, Zachary and Kathryn Phelan and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Catherine graduated from Tucson High School in May 1943 and then attended The University of Arizona graduating in 1947 with a B. S. in Food and Nutrition Sciences. After completing her Dietetic Internship at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City, she worked as a consultant for several nursing homes; as Director of Food Services at Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and Blind; and, then, as Project Coordinator and Nutrition Educator for the Department of Food and Nutrition Sciences at The University of Arizona. She received the Award of Merit from the Arizona Dietetic Association in 1977; was active in National, State and Local Dietetic Associations; Daughter's of the American Revolution; Children of the American Revolution; Arizona State Genealogical Society; Pilot Club of Tucson; Tucson Home Economists in Homemaking; Citizens Alliance; and Sierra Neighborhood Association. Mary Catherine was a serious genealogist who authored, " The Heritage and the Legacy of John Ramsey Rothrock: A Colorado Pioneer". Her hobbies included writing, photography, genealogy, quilting, sewing and hiking. Mary Catherine was a delightful and gifted woman who will be dearly missed by her family and friends. A Visitation will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel at 1050 N. Dodge Blvd., from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 2, 2017 10:30 a.m. at the St. Thomas More Catholic Newman Center, 1615 E. 2nd Street with parking available in UA 2nd street garage. Burial will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery.
