Megan Spence

Megan Lynn Spence March 5, 1970 – July 10, 2017 On July 10th, 2017, In Tucson, Arizona, Megan Lynn Spence, affectionately known as Meego, Meegs, Meegle Beagle and Meegee Bear, passed on from this world and made her journey to the next. Megan, a beautiful, passionate, intelligent and magnificent soul, was born on March 5th, 1970 in Boston Massachusetts. At an early age, her intelligence immediately shone through as she remarkably, at the age of 2, learned to speak Chinese while watching Sesame Street with her Chinese nanny neighbor who was trying to learn English. At the age of 3 ½, she lovingly became an interpreter for her parents as she translated her 2 year old brother and sisters babbling infant twin speak to them, which was only decipherable to her. With that, her love of foreign languages was born. Megan also loved fashion, music and dance. And boy could she dance. It was often joked that she could have been a Solid Gold Dancer or one of the Fly Girls on “In Living Color” but in all honesty, she could have been…..easily. Her Beauty was striking as she modeled with Barbizon, CB Sports Ski Wear and was runner up in the Junior Miss pageant in High School. She also entered and won many beauty contests in Arizona. Her love for Duran Duran and Simon Le Bon was also legendary as “Hungry like a Wolf”, “Rio” or “Girls on Film” was always playing within earshot away. The next time you hear “Save a Prayer”, save a prayer for her, she’d love that. Feel free to crank up some Masquerade by Berlin too. Megan grew up in Springfield, Vermont and graduated from Springfield High School in 1988. She moved to Tucson to attend the University of Arizona to major in French. After graduating from U of A, she spent a year in France and taught English classes to local school children in the charming town of Brulon where she formed many wonderful, lifelong friendships. After living in Arizona for a good many years, Megan made it back east again and lived in Vermont and Boston for a spell. Many trips were made to Lake Winnipesaukee, which was one of her favorite places on earth. The Loons, the sound of the waves on the shoreline and the immense beauty of the lake brought her so much joy, happiness and peace. In 2014, Megan’s heart brought her back to the purple mountains of Tucson and she found a new love, Korean food. Megan was always a sneaky good cook and her mussels and sweet breads were absolutely amazing as was her fried chicken. With her newfound passion for Korean food, wouldn’t you know it; she began speaking Korean with the owners of the Korean Market down the street. Oh Meegee Bear, we love you so incredibly much. While heart complications after surgery took you from us, our hearts will forever be filled with our undying love for you. Your free spirit, sense of humor and beautiful smile will live in our hearts and minds always. We miss you and love you. Megan is survived by her parents Dr. Richard J. and Patricia C. Spence of Springfield, VT, sister and brother in-law, Allyson and Christopher Corliss of Springfield, VT by way of Crested Butte Colorado, nephew Deven Blais of Springfield by way of Kila, Montana, brother James Spence and sister in love and spirit Jennifer Young Starr and nephews Christopher and Connor Starr of Springfield, VT, aunt and uncle, Pamela & Denis Gerrior of Billerica, MA and aunt Joanne Spence of Farmington, CT. With Megan’s immense love of animals, especially for her two kitties, Madsen and Siren, donations to the Springfield, VT Humane Society would be incredibly appreciated. They can be reached at (802) 885-3997 A gathering of remembrance for Meegs will be held on September 9th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the 8th Annual Wings of Hope Butterfly Release sponsored by the VT & NH Visiting Nurse & Hospice foundation.
