Robert Fairchild Obituary

FAIRCHILD, Robert Harold, September 20, 1935. As a child, Robert adored his father, so it is fitting that he, like his Dad, became an engineer. Bob designed the first AC units used on burn patients and was the liaison for the US and National Cash Register in Japan. He was an entrepreneur in the purest sense of the word; and his father- in-law, Paul Stull, recognized his intelligence and creative instincts. Bob was a loner, though he loved his sons and daughter and taught them many things. He shared his love of sport with them and taught them all to ski; and he loved playing the flute with his daughter, Tara. As an athlete, he won the ski trials in Mont Tremblant and, as the consummate sales person, had the respect and admiration of his closest associates. He founded Mega of Akron, OH, a distribution house for Parker Hannifin with another associate of Parker Hannifin. Bob spent time as a commercial realtor with Crye Leike of Germantown, TN, and taught the female agents to use the HP calculator. He was a kind man, who found bickering and jealous back biting a small person's way to nowhere. While living in Germantown, he was a President for the Germantown Chamber of Commerce. He was a jazz musician and a member of the US Navy Band. His instrument was the trumpet, and he loved going to NYC to watch his sister Charlotte when she would appear on Broadway. She had a beautiful voice, and he was very proud of her successes in that area. Charlotte preceded her brother in death in 2013. He is also survived by sister, Claudia Gehrlein, Esta Fairchild and Millie Fairchild of Cleveland, OH; and Tom Fairchild, also of Cleveland, OH. Bob is survived by his wife, Myra, and daughter, Tara, and two grandsons, Alexander and Riley, who named after grandfather's family name. He also had two sons, Joe and Jim, by a previous marriage. A Memorial Service will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd., on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 12:00 noon.
