Robert Fliegel

Robert Andrew Fliegel Born in Pottsville, PA February 9, 1913. Passed peacefully at the age of 98 in Tucson, AZ March 14, 2011. Son of Joseph Fliegel and Ruth Sullivan, he is survived by his loving devoted wife of 70 years, Lillian May Johns Fliegel and their two sons, Robert Kirk Fliegel and Timothy Patrick Fliegel (Leslie Byrne); grandchildren, Laurin, Christine, Andrew, Cathleen, Nicole, Thomas, Jesse, Kirk and Jason; great- grandchildren, Steve, Sabrina, Ashley, Lauren, Will, Taylor, Chase, Sophia, Lillian Ann and Jacob; his brother Charles' children, Karen, Wayne and Donna. Preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn and her husband, Chuck and Roberts' son, Gregg and his wife, Gina. Graduated with a Bachelor of Science 1934 and a Master of Science in 1935 in Chemical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. Enlisted Navy in 1941 and served until 1946, achieving rank of Lieutenant Commander on convoy duty transporting troops to the European theatre. After the war, he settled with Lillian in southern California to raise their family as a successful chemical engineer and business owner in Culver City. An active Lions Club member, who in 1976 became District Governor, and Chairman of the Board of the YMCA, President of the Chamber of Commerce, an Honorary Rotarian and Board Member at Brotman Medical Center where Lillian was an active volunteer. They loved seeing the world together and especially enjoyed the romantic beaches and mountains of Hawaii. Lillian and Robert relocated to Tucson in 1989, where he stayed active in the Leones de las Montanas Lions Club, continued traveling abroad and sharing their lives with their extended family. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at La Cholla Country Club, 8700 N. La Cholla Blvd., Tucson, AZ. Robert would appreciate contributions to go to the Lions Club White Cane Fund. Arrangements entrusted to ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel (742-7901).
