Shirley Richmond Obituary

Shirley Ann Richmond February 5, 1939-April 15, 2017 Shirley Ann Richmond peacefully passed away at Tucson Medical Center following complications of surgery on Saturday April 15, 2017 at the age of 78. Shirley was born on February 5, 1939 to John and Meredith (Turner) Brusher in Richmond, IN where she graduated from Richmond High School. Shirley grew up with her 3 brothers and 3 sisters in the house her father built. She and her family always sat down together for the evening meals. On December 26, 1980 she married Douglas Scott Richmond in Santa Ana, CA. She worked as supervisor for Zee Medical Products in Irvine CA and Indianapolis IN, retiring after 25 years. Shirley loved spending time with her friends and family. She enjoyed travel, especially to homes of friends and family and to her home town of Richmond for the biennial Brusher/Turner reunion. Shirley enjoyed recording the genealogy of her Brusher, Turner and Richmond families researching six generations. She loved entertaining at home and sailing with her devoted husband of 36 years, Douglas. She was active in the Seal Beach Yacht Club with their Catalina sailboat and supported her husband in the sports car racing during her time in Southern California. She loved camping at race tracks when the friends and family competed in SCCA racing events. She loved dancing – she and Doug would dance to 60s music for entertainment in the years before they had a TV in their home. Shirley was a creative home decorator and enlivened her home with vibrant colors and sunshine. She designed multiple gardens and planted over 90 trees while living in Zionsville, IN as well as making an oasis where she lived in Tucson, AZ in retirement. She loved quilting and made quilts for all her devoted grandchildren: Jason Ray Borum, Jennifer Marie (Willis) Sawade, Christopher Michael Smith, Dillon Ray Bigbee, Garette Keith Arnold, Caleb Robert Owens, Nathen Kyle Willis, Jackson Scott Willis, Ellianna Marie Willis, and Nicholas John Willis. The grandchildren may never remember why, but Shirley is the reason they love singing “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” and “The Name Game”. She spent many hours with them, just playing, and teaching and loving them. Shirley is survived by her beloved husband Douglas, sister Peggy Lue (Brusher) Kobleck, brother Merriel Lavon Brusher, sister Carol Sue (Brusher) Crews, and sister Avis Jean (Brusher) Bird, as well as her son Bobby Joe Willis Jr. and his wife Nadine, and daughter Fonda Sue (Willis) Amidzich and her husband Kurt Jr. She was preceded in death by her father John Edgar Brusher Jr., mother Meredith (Turner) Brusher, brother Richard Lee Brusher, brother John Edgar Brusher III, as well as two children, son Jeffery Lynn Willis and daughter Shirlene (Willis) Smith. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She leaves behind a lot of caring relatives and friends. The family will hold a Memorial Service at a later date at her home in Tucson, AZ. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to support battered women and children may be given at Casa De Los Niños 1101 N 4th St Tucson AZ 85705 (www.casadelosninos.org).
