Thomas McWilliams Obituary

Dr. Thomas P. McWilliams was born in Montgomery County, Iowa on February 5, 1920 and died in Tucson, AZ on August 13, 2011. He was the second of four generations of rural family medicine doctors. He was educated in Iowa and practiced in Guthrie Center and Bayard, Iowa for 15 years prior to moving to Tucson in January 1961. He practiced in Tucson for 25 years and retired in 1985. United in marriage 65 years ago with Sadie Marie Campbell who survives him along with children, Steven C. (Lynne) of Albuquerque, NM, Dr. Thomas E. (Patricia DeLoss) of Carefree, AZ, Susan of Wenatchee, WA and Sara Jane of Oro Valley, AZ. Also surviving are grandsons, Dr. Ryan T. McWilliams (New Zealand) and Dr. Justin P. McWilliams (Santa Monica, CA) and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. E. W. McWilliams and four sisters. During his life, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha social fraternity, was an active member of Elks and Lions clubs while in practice, and was very involved in HAM radio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army. Dr. McWilliams loved people and never met a stranger. He wants to be remembered as an ornery old cuss with a good sense of humor. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, February 5, 2012 which would have been his 92nd birthday.
