Vernon Myers

Vernon Myers 83, born in Sioux City, IA, died May 11, 2013, in Tucson, AZ. He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 56 years; daughter, Ann Myers (Bruce Hustedt) Prescott, AZ; son, Jim Myers, Tucson; brother, James L. Myers, CA. Vern was graduated from the University of Arizona, attended Thunderbird Graduate School, Glendale, AZ, owned an insurance and Realty Company in Benson, AZ, and was a teacher in AZ - Sierra Vista, Ajo and Tucson (Sunnyside District). He was a past president of the Benson Rotary Club, ATO Alumni Assoc., Toastmaster's, Midtown Sertoma Club, a volunteer for Sun Sounds Radio Station, and the U. of A. President's Club. For nine summers Vern and Barbara managed the American Youth Hostel in Ketchikan, Alaska. Vern, an adventurous spirit, loved: fishing, table tennis, high school and college debating, poetry, dancing,, photography, camping on the beach in Mexico, music (Ella Fitzgerald to Travis Edmonson to Aida), traveling all seven continents, Native American history and art, U. of A. sports, his dog, Tessa, and sharing the same birthday with Barbara. Many thanks to the staff at Encore/Pacifica for their compassionate care. A Celebration of Vern's life will be held Friday, May 31, 2013, 11:00 a.m., Rincon UCC, 122 N. Craycroft, Tucson. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Midtown Sertoma Club of Tucson, P.O. Box 57643, Tucson, AZ 85732, for their Audiology Scholarship, or to the charity of your choice .
