Virginia Potter

Virginia Knopf Potter 5/21/1918 — 7/8/2011 Virginia grew up in St. Louis before moving in 1952 to Tucson, where she quickly grew to love the desert and where she and her husband Stanley raised their family. She became active in La Sierra Garden Club, PEO Chapter E, and Pueblo Junior Women's Club, and she was a 60-year member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. Her many new friends soon became her "family" in Arizona, including "The Birthday Girls" group, who began their tradition nearly 60 years ago and who last met in May to celebrate Virginia's 93rd birthday. After Stanley's death, she worked at the University of Arizona and later at a florist shop, where she loved the artistic and creative challenges – two passions she brought to many other areas of life. Virginia, who loved to travel abroad as well as to visit family and friends in the US, has now made her final journey, having passed away peacefully, in her sleep, at her care home. Virginia was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by her parents and her brothers; her first husband, Stanley M. Knopf, and her second husband, Phillip J. Potter. She is survived by her son, William "Bill" S. Knopf (Donna); daughter, Nanci J. Hartwick (Peter) and granddaughter, Elizabeth A. Hartwick. A Memorial Service in celebration and thanksgiving for Virginia's life is scheduled for Sunday, July 24, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 400 E. University Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent in Virginia's name to Trinity Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
