Walter Muente Obituary

MUENTE, Walter John, a lifelong Lutheran, received the victory of eternal life and departed to be with our Lord after a long and courageous struggle with heart disease. He is survived by his daughters, Dolores (and Paul) Corley and Suzanne (and Andrew) Hess; his twin granddaughters, Melissa Corley and Anne-Marie Corley; his brother, Frederick Muente; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothea Charlotte Muente. Walter, known to his family and friends as "Walt" passed away on May 9, 2012, after a valiant battle with heart disease. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 19, 1925, and was raised there with two sisters and two brothers. During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps in the 509th Composite group, where he worked with Colonel Tibbets and the crew of the Enola Gay. On June 22, 1951, he married Dorothea in Chicago, Illinois, and then worked at the Schlitz Brewery in Milwaukee. Later, he and Dorothea returned to the Chicago area where they raised their two daughters. He joined the tax staff of G. D. Searle & Co. where he worked for 37 years, becoming the corporate tax manager and, ultimately, the assistant treasurer of the company. In 1990 he and his wife retired to Tucson, where he came to love the beautiful scenery of the Catalina Mountains. Walter will be remembered lovingly by his family and friends for his quick mind, his dry wit, and his unfailing determination to survive with dignity in the face of heart disease. He maintained an active lifestyle and fully enjoyed retirement and all the activities in which he engaged with his friends at Splendido. Funeral Service 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 14, 2012 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Walter's memory to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church or the Air Force Memorial Foundation. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
