Betty Smith Obituary

Betty Carol Smith, age 78, of Tucson AZ passed away, at her home, Thursday January 19, 2017. Preceded in death by her husband Mark Smith, sisters Marge Rosen, Ona Okfit, Nan Fried and brother Willis Lee Brock. She is survived by her sister Virginia Donovan (husband David) of Tucson AZ and brother Joe Sellers (wife Myrtle) of Detroit MI, her son Brit Potter of Pikeville KY and daughter Janet Zborowski (husband Richard) of Ponte Vedra Beach FL. Grandchildren Paul Slone and Bonnie Mullins and 3 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Betty raised her family in Kentucky. She had a Master’s Degree in Education, and worked for many years for the Pike County Board of Education. In Tucson, she and her husband Mark, traveled extensively and enjoyed their time while at home gardening, entertaining family and friends, raising their Great Danes and going to every University of Arizona Wildcats basketball game. Later in life she worked extensively for the Society of Military Widows Veterans at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. Betty trained in Ballroom Dancing spending several hours a week practicing, both for fun and preparing for the many dance competitions she so enjoyed. A memorial service will be held at Desert Sunset Funeral Home, 3081 W. Orange Grove Rd. on Monday, January 23 at 11am with Chaplin Rose Bull officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery in Washington DC on a later date.
