David Raymond McCubbrey, M.D., age 88, of Oro Valley Arizona, died peacefully on Thursday, June 22, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents David D. McCubbrey and Ann McCubbrey and his wife of 66 years Claire L. McCubbrey. He is survived by his brother Donald (Janis) McCubbrey of Colorado, his children David (Gabriela) of Michigan, Douglas of California, and Doris of Colorado. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Alexandra (Erin) Leigh McCubbrey of Colorado and Elizabeth Claire McCubbrey of Michigan, and two grandsons Douglas Sean McCubbrey and Colin Scott McCubbrey of Texas. A graduate of Denby High School, Detroit, and a West Point Academy first alternate, he attended the University of Michigan and graduated from its Medical School in 1953. He interned at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York and subsequently lived in Germany from 1955 to 1957 with his wife and two children during his service as an officer in the U.S. Army.. David and his wife eventually settled in Plymouth, Michigan, where they raised their three children, and he practiced general surgery at his private practice and abdominal surgery at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. They moved back to Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1983, living there until his retirement in 1993. He relocated with his wife to Oro Valley, Arizona, where he enjoyed the rest of his life in sunshine. A member of the Frederick Coller Surgical Society, he touched the lives of many patients throughout his long career. David will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
