Sharyn McKay

Sharyn Cherie McKay peacefully passed away at her Tucson home early Friday morning on July 21, 2017. Ms. McKay was born on August 8, 1945 in Hartford CT. She grew up and attended schools in Crete, Illinois. She attended DePauw University in Greencastle, IN until transferring to the University of AZ in 1965. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Government. Ms. McKay was offered a grant to teach school in San Manuel, AZ. There, she fell in love with teaching and continued her education at the University to obtain a Master’s Degree in Education. Sharyn dedicated her life to helping students as an educator and administrator in various school districts in and around the Tucson area. Sharyn joined the Sauk Trail Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Illinois and was an associate member of the Tucson Chapter, NSDAR. Sharyn was the eldest daughter of Thomas Clayton and Rita Duffy McKay of Frankfort, IL who predeceased her. Sharyn is survived by two sisters, Robin McKay Willis of Beecher, IL and Denise McKay of Watseka, IL. She was a loving aunt to Lauri Gregorash, Nicole Willis Zalinski, and Clay Willis and to her seven great nieces and nephews. She left behind numerous cousins across the country. “Shay” was devoted to and admired by several very special friends. Private arrangements have been made through Desert Sunset Funeral Home on Orange Grove Blvd. Per Sharyn’s wishes, she will be buried at Skyline Cemetery in Monee, IL with her parents. A “celebration of life” gathering will take place at a later date. The family wishes to thank CASA de la Luz Hospice for their amazing care.
